Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard:

Harvest Status: Fall crop planting is underway.

Santa Maria:

Quality: Both conventional and organic fruit are good quality with nice size, shape, and flavor.

Volume: Conventional plants are heavy with flowers; a lot of fruit is expected in mid-September. Organic volumes continue to increase each week.

Pack Counts: Conventional Fall Crop: 16-18-22 ct. depending on ranch

Organic Fall Crop: 16-20 ct.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Quality is fair with some dark fruit from previous warm weather. 

Volume: Production will remain steady for the next few weeks. Harvest schedules are running behind due to tight labor. 

Pack Counts: Conventional: 20-24 ct.  / Organic: 28-30 ct.

BLUEBERRIES

Oregon:

Quality: Quality is fair with occasional small or shriveled fruit.

Volume: Organic production is almost finished. Conventional will continue for the next three weeks.

British Columbia:

Quality: Quality is good.

Volume: Steady volumes are expected for the next two weeks.

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good with nice-sized fruit. This region has been experiencing consistent rain, which will cause ripening delays and increase the likelihood of disease. Growers are monitoring this closely. 

Volume: Pending effects from the rain in the next few weeks, volume is expected to increase in week 38 with peak production forecasted for weeks 41-47.

South America:

Quality: Quality is great.

Volume: Congestion at the port has slightly pushed back the first container arrivals. Volume is expected to be steady through December.

RASPBERRIES

Mexico:

Quality: Overall quality is good with some weather-related soft fruit. Crews are working to keep packs clean.

Volume: Pending effects from the rain in the next few weeks, production will continue to increase each week.

Quality: Quality is very good with crews putting together great packs.

 Volume: Peak production is expected to continue for the next several weeks.

Quality: Quality is good with occasional leaky cells that occur during transit.

 Volume: Production is expected to be steady for the next few weeks.

Harvest Status: Wet weather is causing delays for growers. Production is expected to pick up by the end of September.
