Happy Monday!
We're back from Labor Day weekend and can't believe it's already September. There's only a few more weeks until fall rolls around - and that means spiced, seasonal berry cocktails, savory skillet desserts and sweater weather. We currently have a lot of great looking fruit, and a lot on the way as well, as we transition from summer to fall with our berry seasons kicking off in Mexico, Central America and Florida.

Watsonville - Salinas:
Watsonville-Salinas weather has been in the 60s-70s with mornings and early afternoons starting off cold and foggy, and slowly clearing up in the late afternoon. Labor continues to be short in the industry and progressively worsening as the season persists. Growers are leaving blocks behind to keep up with rotation, but are doing their best with the crews they have. They are already working and prepping ground for next season, which they will start to plant the last week of October. Volume will continue to go down each week as we finish the season in late October early November. Cold weather and shorter days are helping with quality. Counts are ranging 20 to 22 per 1lb. clam with a few ranches in the high 20s.
Santa Maria:
Weather this week in Santa Maria will fluctuate in the 70s-80s with mostly sunny skies. Our Portola fall crop is looking great with all grower counts at 12-14, and some 16s. Plants look strong and healthy with a lot of flowers -quality is great and fruit is firm. Defects right now include minor discoloration of fruit, but overall pack and fruit quality is great in Santa Maria.
Mexico:
There are scattered showers forecasted all over central Mexico this week. Temperatures fluctuate between high 50s in the morning, and high 70s to low 80s during the day. Days are becoming shorter as we get into the fall season. There is a lot of blossom on raspberry and blueberry crops - with a lot of green fruit as well. Strawberry plantings will be done this week or early next week among our plug plants. We are still continuing with raspberries plantings. Quality is great among our early blueberry crop, with large fruit seen with our raspberries as well.
Blueberries:
British Columbia- This will be our last week of harvesting blues in our British Columbia region. Daily rain showers that begin Friday will ultimately bring an end to a successful BC blueberry season.
Oregon- Our Oregon region will have light supply for the next 3 weeks. Quality has been excellent, mostly firm berries and the occasional soft fruit. We have scattered rain in the weekend forecast, but this is not a concern right now.
Mexico - Our Mexico region is just beginning the first picks in the fields. We will have light, steady production for the next 4 weeks. Quality is excellent!
South America - blues will begin production in the next 2-3 weeks. Steady supply beginning the first week of October. (Argentina-Uruguay)
