Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard:

Harvest Status: Fall crop planting is underway.

Santa Maria:

Quality: Quality is good overall with occasional minor defects of deformed tips, overripe fruit, and pin rot due to recent wet mornings.

Volume: Volume continues to increase. The fields are loaded with flower and green fruit of all stages. 

Pack Counts: Conventional Fall Crop: 18-20-24 ct. depending on ranch / Organic Fall Crop: 18-20-24 ct. depending on ranch

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Crews are battling overripe, bruised, and decayed fruit, and are working hard to keep packs clean.

Volume: Production remains strong as the season starts to decline.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 22-25-30 / Organic: 28-32

BLUEBERRIES

Mexico:

Quality: Quality is excellent.

Volume: Production continues to increase.

South America:

Quality: Quality is great. Peru’s size has reduced slightly.

Volume: Argentina and Peru are in peak season. Chile will pick up in October.

Mexico:

Quality: Growers are working hard to manage weather-related yellow rust.

Volume: Volume is steady.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Quality is very good with occasional soft fruit.
 
Volume: Production is starting to decrease.

BLACKBERRIES

Mexico:

Quality: Wet weather has caused issues with red, leaky cells and soft fruit. Crews are keeping packs clean.

Volume: Volume is steadily increasing.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Quality is good. 
 
Volume: Volumes are declining as the season winds down.
