Watsonville-Salinas:
Santa Maria:
Weather in our Santa Maria region has been a bit cooler in the 60s with nighttime temperatures in the 40s. Conditions going into next week will be slightly warmer with temperatures in the 70s, but will soon taper off into the low 60s - high 50s with potential rainfall for next Tuesday-Thursday. Crop quality is looking good for the most part - our Portola variety is 20-24 count, some at 18 depending on the ranch. The Monterey variety is mostly 25-27 count , some 18-22 with minor green shoulders and overripe fruit here and there due to weather. Conditions are slow-moving in Santa Maria but packs are being kept clean for our customers. Volumes are decreasing each week, and organics have potentially 1-2 weeks left.
Oxnard:
We had showers off and on in our Oxnard region this week, but most of the storm was further south, and no damages have been reported to our fields. More rain is on the forecast on Wednesday and Thursday next week, but amounts seem relatively low. Temperatures will remain in the 60s-70s until the showers come on Wednesday, and will then quickly drop to the 50s. We are a few weeks from kicking off our season here - with the second week of December as our tentative start date. Fruit is ripening slowly but surely, and conditions are looking good in the fields.
Mexico:
Central Mexico weather is expected to begin clearing up next week across most growing regions. So far into our Mexico season weather has been our biggest hurdle, but conditions are looking up come Monday of next week.
Strawberries:
Weather has been our biggest hurdle for our strawberry crops, however, our quality control team is ensuring clean packs and good quality. Counts from Maravatio are 24-26, with Zamora and Irapuato 26-28. Production will be increasing each week. Organics have been affected by weather and we may have a few crates finally available next week once conditions clear.
Blackberries:
Recent rainfall has compromised our fruit quality, but clear weather looks to be underway soon. In general, quality is getting better as conditions begin to dry up - however, humidity does continue to affect fruit as well. Volumes will be slowly increasing each week.
Raspberries:
We are facing minor hurdles with our raspberry crop, but growers and field personnel are working to ensure clean packs and strong fruit. Volumes will slowly increase each week in both conventional and organics.
Blueberries:
Our blueberry crops are looking excellent, with very little issues from weather. The volume is increasing each week among both conventional and organics - and size, bloom and firmness are all looking great.
Blueberries:
Harvest volumes of Biloxi in Peru are consistent and crop quality is looking good. Weather should remain warm and moderate over the next week with temperatures in the 70s. In Argentina-Uruguay the Emerald, Jewel and Star varieties are the main harvested varieties - all of which are looking good in quality in both the fields and packs. There are thunderstorms projected in Salta-Concordia over the weekend which may affect harvest schedules. Chilean crops are looking good with great size, high bloom and firmness. Volumes are increasing in the main production zones, with the majority coming from crops under the hoops.
Florida:
Weather in Florida has been in the low 80s - low 60s at night with no chance of rain on the forecast. Come December, temperatures may cool down slightly into the low-mid 70s during the day with nighttime temperatures in the 50s. So far, weather has been in our favor this season. Quality in the fields is looking really good - with our Brilliance variety mostly 24-28 count, some 24-26. Sensations are looking good in quality with minor cat-face appearance here and there, but nothing significant. Both have great color and firmness at this time. Plants are strong with good bloom, and we should see a big increase in volume in the next few weeks.
