Crop Updates

Strawberries

Santa Maria:

Quality: Overall quality of both conventional and organic fruit is good. Forecasted cool weather patterns should help keep fruit firm and mitigate any bruising and over-ripeness.

Volume: Production will remain steady for both conventional and organic, as volume starts to slow down. 

Pack Counts: Conventional: 16-18, 20-22 ct. depending on variety / Organic: 16-18-20 ct.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Fruit quality remains good with large sizes still holding in some ranches. Some minor bronzing and thrip damage are the only defects.

Volume: Production continues to steadily increase for an end of June peak of volume. 

Pack Counts: Conventional: 10-14-16 ct. depending on variety / Organic: 18-20-24 ct. depending on variety.

Blueberries

Mexico

Quality: Overall fruit quality is good. 

Volume: Production continues to decrease as the spring crop wraps up for the season. 

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with mostly firm berries and good bloom.

Volume: Production is winding down for the season and is projected to finish in week 24.

Central Valley, CA

Quality: Both conventional and organic fruit quality is good. 

Volume: Conventional production will pick up this week, as growers reach peak volume. Organic productions will remain consistent for the next two weeks.

Georgia:

Quality: Quality is excellent with medium-sized berries and no major defects. 

Volume: Highbush production will taper off this week. Light picking for rabbiteye will start this week. Full production will begin the week of June 12.  

Raspberries

Mexico:

Quality: Some soft and broken fruit being reported due to ongoing heat. Crews are working hard to keep packs clean. 

Volume: Conventional production will increase mid-June and remain steady through the summer. Organic harvests will be light through the next month or two and pick back up toward the end of July. 

Watsonville/Salinas:

Harvest Status: Crews had their first pass in the fields last week, and will continue a light harvest for the new few weeks until production increases mid-June.

Blackberries 

Watsonville/Salinas:

Harvest Status: Growers expect to start light first harvests this week and gain momentum toward mid-June.  

Georgia:

Quality: Quality is excellent with no major defects. 

Volume: Production is increasing each week and is expected to enter peak in the next few weeks.
