Santa Maria - Temps have been in the upper 60’s/low 70’s with nighttime lows in the 50’s. There is a small chance of rain on Wednesday. Fruit looks good with full color, but there has been some wind damage and bronzing. Counts are 18-22. Labor is extremely tight. We should start harvesting blackberries in late July.
Watsonville/Salinas - Temps have been hovering in the mid 60’s, with nighttime temps in the low 50’s. There is a small chance of rain this weekend. Quality is good, with some overripe fruit and green shoulders. Counts are mostly 14-16. Labor is OK. Most of our fields finish harvesting by 10:30am. Our raspberry and blackberry volume is increasing.
Blueberries - Our California blueberry program is peaking in volume. We expect steady production for the next two weeks. Weather has been warm in most parts of the Central Valley, but this weekend and extended forecasts look to be much cooler, which will help firm up the berries. Our Southeast blueberry program has been hit with occasional thunderstorms this week with no major damage, but has decreased production. We are expecting great weather next week and production will be steady for the next two weeks. The extended forecast for our Pacific Northwest blueberry program looks great. We are forecasting a steady volume coming out of Oregon and British Columbia from mid-June through the end of August. Our Michigan blueberry season will begin around mid-July and run through September.

The 57th Annual Spring Lamb BBQ was held last Saturday, raising over $60,000, providing an opportunity for big donations to the American Cancer Society and Jacob's Heart Foundation.
Over the past 57 years, local volunteers from the produce industry have donated their time to the Spring Lamb BBQ, contributing to its success of donating over $1 million to the American Cancer Society. Once again, we would like to thank all of those for donating and volunterring to this long standing event.

Summer serves up the best weather for family, friends and fun outdoor activities, as well as an abundance of peak-of-season fruits (berries!) and vegetables.
We are enticing your shoppers to fill their shopping carts with our California Giant berries this summer with our Summer Snacking Sweepstakes. When consumers sign up for this sweepstakes, they are entered for a chance to win a $5,000 build-your-own dream vacation.
Additionally, once entered we collect their contact information and will send them six emails throughout the summer, featuring recipes for quick, on-the-go snacks (like the blueberry newtons shown below!) featuring our California Giant berries so we keep them coming back for more at your store, as they try each of the recipes during the six week campaign.
