Crop Updates

Strawberries

Santa Maria:

Quality: Conventional fruit quality is very good with nice size, color, and excellent taste. The only minor imperfections are button tips, dark color, and light bruising. Organic fruit quality is good overall with occasional soft skin and seedy tips.

Volume: Ranches are moving into peak production which will continue into June. 

Pack Counts: Conventional: 14-16-18, 18-20 ct. depending on variety / Organic: 16-18 ct.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Quality is excellent with very large fruit and only sporadic, minor bruising due to size. 

Volume: Production is picking up and peak season is still estimated for mid-to-late June.

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good with nice firmness and taste. A few overripe berries and flower debris are being seen and monitored. 

Volume: Volume will remain steady for the next few weeks, but is still on a downward trajectory for the season.

Oxnard

Quality: Organic fruit quality continues to be great. 

Volume: Growers are expecting a strong finish to the season which will conclude in the next three weeks.  

Central Valley, CA

Quality: Pack quality is good.

Volume: Recent warm weather will significantly increase production this week and remain consistent for the next 4 weeks.

Georgia:

Quality: Fruit quality is mixed with both excellent fruit and soft fruit with stems and blossom ends. Quality control is working hard to keep packs clean. 

Volume: Peak production continues with last week's volume exceeding estimates.

Raspberries

Mexico:

Quality: Overall fruit quality is good with some instances of overripe and broken cells. 

Volume: Production is on a downward trend and will pick back up in June.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Harvest Status: A light first harvest took place last week and will continue slowly through May before production picks up in June. 

Blackberries 

Watsonville/Salinas:

Harvest Status: A light first harvest is anticipated at the end of May with production gaining momentum toward the middle of June.

Georgia:

Harvest Status: Growers are looking forward to a strong season as canes are heavy with bloom, and green and red fruit. A light harvest will begin late this week and production will increase 7-10 days after.
