Watsonville - Salinas:
Weather has been in the 60s-70s and should continue to remain mild and temperate into next week, with slightly cooler temperatures. Quality looks excellent in our fields, with fruit looking huge, full-colored and firm. Counts range from 9-12 and 12-14 for organics. Our organic variety Sweet Anne is looking huge right now, with our peak for this region anticipated for the first week of June. We'll begin to scratch our blackberry crop this Friday with a slow and steady start. Labor is not an issue at the moment.
Santa Maria:
Weather has been in the upper 60s during the day with partly cloudy skies, with nighttime lows in the 40s-50s. Despite moderate temperatures, we have experienced gusts of wind up to 20mph. Fruit quality looks excellent, and volume is plentiful. Berries are firm with full color, and counts range from 18-22 among San Andreas and Monterey, with some 14-16 count, and Frontera’s 18-20. Labor is looking good as it typically does this time of year.
Mexico:
Weather in Los Reyes is going to be in the mid 80s all week with nighttime lows ranging around 65 degrees and scattered showers. Temperatures in Ziracuaretiro will be in the high 70s all week with scattered thunderstorms expected each day. Nighttime lows will fall to the high 50s. Some crops have been damaged by the recent lingering rain, while some show no sign of damage. Quality is still holding up, however there are some ranches here and there that are struggling with overripe, soft, and rain-damaged fruit.
Blueberries:
Oxnard Organics
We are seeing a slight decline in production for the next 3-4 weeks. With that being said, quality still is looking excellent. Warm and sunny days are forecasted in the upcoming days.
Pacific North West
Oregon: We project our first harvest to be on June 22nd.
Washington Organics: We project our first harvest to be on June 15th.
British Columbia: We project our first harvest to be on June 25th.
Georgia
Peak production for our high bush varieties are coming to an end this week. Rain showers are scattered throughout this week which could limit our supply temporarily. Despite the weather, quality has been excellent.
Central Valley
Our production will begin to increase by the end of this week and for the next 3-6 weeks production will be steady and abundant. Weather is expected to be warm and sunny and the berries are large in size and firm.
