Watsonville- Salinas:

We’ve had cool and overcast weather over the past week, but we’re expecting a gradual warm-up next week into the high 70’s! Strawberry supply is looking good with 8-12 counts that will eventually average 10-12. Still some burnt calyx around, but this is improving with each field pass. Still on track to see peak volume mid-June!

Santa Maria:

We’ve had a windy week so far, but we’re expecting the same temperature warm-up from Salinas next week. Frontera is sizing down a bit to average 18-22 count. San Andreas and Monterey are averaging out at 16-18 count with great quality! We’re expecting stable peak volumes throughout May.

Organic Strawberries: Count is now averaging 20-22 with fruit being slightly affected from last week’s heat wave. Expecting stable peak volumes throughout May!

Raspberry

Watsonville-Salinas:

We’re expecting to start our season in mid-May with small volumes and an expected increase in volume as we move towards June.

Mexico:

Berry production from Jalisco and Guanajuato continues to decrease, and the output from Michoacan is reaching the last pick for the next four weeks and will start reducing as we wind down the season.

Organic Raspberry:

Next week will be our last harvest of the season.

Blackberry

Mexico:

We’re reaching our highest peak volume for the next three weeks! Quality has a little bit of issues with lowering temperatures, but we’re still seeing good output overall.

Blueberries:

Mexico:

Sunny Central America temperatures have been soaring past 95 degrees this week with scattered showers and clouds expected next week. As the season gradually comes to an end, volume still remains steady.

Oxnard Organic Blueberries:

Our organics are in peak production! Berry quality has improved over the past week with volume beginning to decrease for the final weeks of the season.

Florida:

The Florida crop has wrapped up for the year.

Georgia

South Georgia was hit with a storm last week that brought heavy winds and some hail to the region. Some farms were greatly impacted by the storm while others had more of a minimal impact. As a result we will see less of a spike in the volume we had anticipated over the peak weeks.

Some lots show some minor defects with a few soft berries, but overall quality is good. We are expected to see more handpicked fruit out of Georgia compared to a typical year as a result of the storm. This will provide consistent and good quality throughout the remainder of the season.

Central Valley California

We’re beginning to harvest and pack small volumes and anticipating an increase around week 20 with expected peak being week 20-23 – about 1 week later than last year.

Oregon:

As of now, the crop looks to be ahead of where it was at this time last year! We’re estimating the earliest fruit on June 15th.

Consumer Spotlight

A berry sweet message from a Freshcuts shopper:

“I just had an opportunity to sample some of your great raspberries. They were great and just about as good as our local summer berries. I am very impressed with the taste and quality, especially when these tender berries come from so far away. Great job!"
