Good afternoon,
We would like to begin this week's Trade Buzz by personally reaching out to our valued customers and addressing the current situation with the coronavirus. Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted. We would like to assure our partners that we have an established Pandemic Policy and Procedures in place, and are continuing to monitor the updates from state and national trade organizations as new developments continue to unfold regarding COVID-19.
We understand various concerns regarding packaging supplies at this time, and also want to assure our partners that 100% of our packaging supply is sourced from North America (none of our material is sourced from China), and we are adequately stocked to meet seasonal demand by growing region. At this time, we do not anticipate a disruption to our supply chain.
Ultimately, our top priority is the safety of our employees and the surety of our fresh berry supply for our customers, and we will continue to communicate timely and transparent updates to our customers as necessary.

Oxnard:
Weather has been unstable this week and conditions are expected to prolong between today and Saturday, with rain on the way again come Monday through most of next week. As of now, we have not received much rain and damages reported are either not significant or very minimal. Shape and sheen look great, and color is 95% with some lighter fruit here and there due to the frequent harvest rotation to get ahead of the weather. Counts are 14-16 and size is holding up well and should continue to over the next 2-3 weeks. Labor continues to not be an issue.
Mexico:
In general, temperatures are increasing among our Central Mexico growing regions, with most staying in the 85-90 degree range, with nighttime lows in the 50s.
Blueberries
Blueberry production will reach a peak for the next two weeks and will start to decrease. The quality is just right. The weather is accelerating the ripening of the fruit.
Organic Blueberries
The production will maintain for the next four weeks. The quality is looking good.
Raspberries
Raspberry volume will continue to increase. Growers and field personnel are working to ensure quality for exportation through the warmer weather.
Organic Raspberries
Organic raspberry production will decrease for the next four weeks, and after that, will begin to increase again as another grower kicks off their season. Quality has maintained consistent.
Strawberries
Strawberry production will maintain consistent. The warm weather is affecting the quality of the fruit, and some growers are reducing the amount of the volume. Maravatio continues with good for exports.
Blackberries
Blackberry production will start increasing for the next four weeks. The quality is good for exportation.
Blueberries:
Mexico
Quality out of Mexico continues to be good, along with size and favorable weather conditions.
South America
We are receiving one container of Chilean fruit at the end of this week and one container the end of next week. Those two containers will be the final arrivals for the South American import season. Arrivals of South American fruit are winding down and are very light throughout the industry as well.
Oxnard Organics
Our estimates decreased slightly out of Oxnard for the next few weeks. Fruit quality is good and berries are mostly firm with no major defects.
Florida
One of our growers in Florida is scheduled to begin light harvest at the end of this week. The production in Florida will start off slow and then quickly increase. Early season quality out of Florida is expected to be excellent.
Central Valley California
Our first fruit out of the Central Valley will be organic blues - with an anticipated start date being the last week of March-first week of April with light volume. Our conventional Central Valley growers are expected to begin picking in mid-late April.
Florida:
Weather in Florida has been hot, with temperatures mostly in the 80s and projected to even be higher the next few days and reaching the 90s. Fruit is currently on a two day harvest rotation to get ahead of the warmer temperatures. We are assessing damages based on the heat and bruising but overall quality is holding up well. Counts are in the low 20s, and the heat should decrease size here soon. Organics are 24-28 count, with the occasional 30 count. We are forecasting about another 12 days left in our conventional season, with the organics to continue another 2-3 weeks.
