Watsonville - Salinas:
We saw a heat trend last week that eventually led into some overcast days. However, that initial heat pushed the strawberry volume for the first part of last week – which means some soft fruit and standards. Later into the week and into the weekend we began to see an improvement, with current quality looking good overall. We cooled off into the weekend with consistent temperatures into the 60s. Counts on most ranches are 16-18, with Salinas fruit slightly smaller. Volume will increase into the first week of July, and begin to slowly decline as we get deeper into the month. Our blackberries look great and had a nice push last week, with an expected peak right before we head into August. Raspberry quality is good, and will have steady volume the next few weeks.
Santa Maria:
This week we can expect weather to remain sunny in the 70s. This mild weather looks great for our blackberries and strawberries in this region. Our conventional strawberries should remain relatively consistent in volume as we head into July, with our organics slowly declining. There is some overripe fruit from the previous hot days we have seen, but overall quality looks decent. Monterey looks good at 22-25 count, and San Andreas at 25-26 count. Both conventional and organic blackberries look great, and will increase in volume each week into July.
Despite stormy weather conditions in our Georgia growing region crop quality remains excellent. We anticipate coming into a peak over the next couple of weeks as weather begins to clear. Our Santa Maria conventional blackberries should see a steady increase in volume through July, with organic blackberries peaking the first week of August.
Blueberries:
We are looking forward to our Pacific Northwest blueberry crop harvest to begin in July. Our Duke variety will be the first variety we will harvest. This crop is anticipated to come in two picks – which means an abundance of volume for over 2.5 weeks. We expect to see this influx in volume from June 25th – July 20th. With that said, we should have consistent volume through August, with our peak of fruit in mid-July. Our British Columbia growing region is a concentrated Duke crop, and will begin harvest July 5th – about 1 week behind Oregon. Weather has been warm and sunny, and great quality, heavy producing crops are well on their way. Expect more photos next week!
