Happy Monday!

This week we soar into summer with sunshine and warm temperatures. Weather is looking good, and so are our berries - just in time for our 4th of July pull.

Crop Updates

Watsonville - Salinas:

Weather this week is forecasted to be in the mid to high 70's, with 80-90 temperatures inland in some areas. Overall, strawberry quality looks good. Our only current obstacles include battling overripe and soft fruit. Counts are ranging between 14 -18 with 1lbs - few ranches are 18 - 20. Three weeks ago, fields were set up to have a nice peak at the end of this month. After wind and last week’s rain event, it does not look like we will be getting that big push. Volume will stay consistent for the next 5 weeks, with the potential to increase with the warm weather ahead. Blackberry volume in Watsonville is increasing each week and will continue to go up as we head into July. Raspberry volume, on the other hand, is beginning to slow down as we head into the summer. Overall quality looks good, with the exception of some overripe fruit due to the high temperatures over the past week. We have no issues with labor at the moment.

Santa Maria

Temperatures have been in the mid to upper 70's, reaching into the low 80's the last few days, with nighttime lows in the upper 50's low 60's.  The same pattern is expected to continue most of this week.  San Andreas is looking much better this week and mostly 18-22 count.  Monterey continues to look good, with full color and firm, and mostly 20-24 count.  Organic quality has been very nice, sizing down a little, and mostly 22-26 count. Labor is tight in this region, but we are staying on schedule with some long days to keep up.  We are still planting our fall crop plants, and should finish early next month.

Blackberries:

Our Georgia region has seen a lot of rain and thunderstorms, but is beginning to clear out nicely. With that, berries should be coming into their peak volume over the next 2 weeks – quality remains excellent. Santa Maria organic and conventional blackberries look great and volume will continue to climb over the next month.

Blueberries: We have two more weeks of packing our Georgia blueberries, as our Central Valley blueberry season comes to an end. Our updated projected Pacific Northwest start dates are set for the week of June 26th in Oregon, and July 3rd in British Columbia.
