Crop Updates

Watsonville - Salinas:

Weather is forecasted to be in the low 70s with a warming trend emerging by the weekend. The biggest challenge we are facing currently is soft fruit due to these warmer days. However, overall quality still looks decent and counts are ranging from 18-20 on 1lb with a few ranches in the low 20s. We are anticipating a slight push in August in terms of strawberry volume, with our raspberries finishing up their first cycle. Numbers will be down in the month of July and will slowly make a push again in August. Blackberries will stay consistent before we make a good push in the middle of August into September. Overall quality among bushberry’s looks good.

Santa Maria

Weather in this region has consisted of foggy, wet mornings with clear afternoons in the low – mid 70s. Last week’s warming trend persisted through the weekend with temperatures hitting the low 80s, and will be back down into the 70s this week. Strawberry quality looks good, with Monterey full in color, firm and 20-24 count. San Andreas looks best on a 3-day fruit cycle, with some soft fruit. However, overall San Andreas is holding up well at 22-26 count. Organic strawberries look great and are at 22-26 count as well, with blackberries maintaining a very good, strong fruit.

Blackberries:

The Georgia blackberry crop is coming to an end to a great season. Quality is still excellent, growers continue to be diligent on graded out red cell and overripe. Weather in the region has cooperated nicely, making for a strong finish to the season in the next 10 days. Our California blackberries in both Santa Maria and Watsonville are both looking like good, solid fruit.

Blueberries:

Our blueberry crops in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia are off to a great start. Crops and weather remain good, with no issues with labor.

There are multiple fires north, south, and east of both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Depending on wind direction, we've had a lot of smoke and ash the last few days in the valley. It may look like cloud or marine layer, but it's mostly smoke. Fields are not directly effected, with the exception of ash remnants dispersing over crops. We're doing our best to keep our packaging covered as much as possible to minimize exposure and ensure only the cleanest fruit.
