Happy Thursday!
We're back! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and an even better New Year's celebration. We have officially entered into a new decade with a lot of exciting initiatives and programs underway in 2020. We are looking forward to another successful year and the opportunity to continue working and growing together. It's January and the season of health, fitness, goal-setting and resolutions. Berries are a staple in living a balanced and nutritious lifestyle, while also keeping things sweet! Be sure to keep 'em front and center this month as smoothies, snacking and low-cal bites become top of mind after holiday splurging.

Weather in Santa Maria will continue to be relatively mild in the 60s-70s for the next week, with mostly party cloudy skies. Mornings are mostly in the 40s and no rain is on the immediate forecast at the moment. The majority of the conventional ranches have wrapped up the season, while the organic hooped ranch still looks nice, mostly at 18-20 count, and seeing a few green shoulders and crooked fruit here and there. Decay is still in the fields from the recent rains, but crews have been doing a good job with the packs and keeping conditions clean. Fronteras is looking good and crews are expected to begin harvest as early as January 10th.
Oxnard:
Weather started off mild this week with temperatures warming up into the 60s and into the 70s over the weekend. Mornings are generally in the 40-50s range with a small chance for rain on Thursday and Friday of next week. Conventional San Andreas quality looks very good, with great size, sheen and shape, with Fronteras to come into play next week. Color is 95-100% and mostly 16-18 count on a 4-day harvest schedule. Labor continues to not be a concern at this time, and volumes will be increasing each week moving forward in both organic and conventional production.
Mexico:
Strawberries:
Strawberries have improved their quality significantly due to the fresh, cool nights and mornings. We are fighting white shoulders on the Albion variety and some bruising on the Sayulitas, but nothing significant.
Blackberries:
Blackberries are doing well and quality is looking good. We had a little rain and wind last night and this morning, and because of these conditions we did not pack today. Aside from this minor weather setback today we have no significant quality concerns to report and fruit is looking nice.
Raspberries:
Raspberries are showing minor defects such as broken and green fruit here and there, and very minor overripe. Overall, the quality is good and packs look clean. Volumes will be increasing each week.

Florida:
Weather in Plant City, Florida has been wet and misty the past 3-4 days and has just started to dry up. Today and tomorrow are going to be warm, with temperatures in the low-mid 80s and nighttime temperatures in the 70s. After this initial warm-period, temperatures will decrease slightly into 70s with the potential for showers on Saturday. Following this, conditions should level out into the 60s-70s with nighttime temperatures in the 40s and more favorable weather for our crops. Quality is looking good with most fruit 20-24 count, and some Sensations at 18 count. Organics are mostly 24-26 count and facing slight defects due to Pestalotiopsis Crown Rot - a new condition to the strawberry industry that is caused from moisture and leads to crown and root rot in strawberries. Crews are working diligently to mitigate this industry-wide challenge to ensure clean crops and packs.

Ah, one of our favorite words: blue! Just before the holidays we learned Pantone named 'Classic Blue' the 2020 color of the year, and as blue-lovers ourselves we couldn't be more excited! It's more than a color to us - it's present in our logo, label, and of course, one of our favorite berries.
