Crop Updates

Strawberries

Oxnard: 

Quality: Good shape, sheen and taste with more than 95% full color on all berries. Growers working hard to battle active mite pressure due to dry weather and Santa Ana winds.

Volume: Volume will increase next week with warmer weather then flatten out to a steady increase.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 12-16 ct

OX straws 1-18-1

Santa Maria:

Quality: Organic Fall crop has nice full color, shape and great flavor. Minor bruising and mildew are being kept out of packs as crews harvest the fruit. Conventional Spring crop has great shape and flavor with small amounts of green tips and shoulders, which is typical for this time of year.

Volume: Production will continue to increase as more ranches start picking later variety plantings. Warm weather will also bump the volume up for the next 10 days.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 10-14 ct / Organic: 18-22 ct

SM Straws 1-18 2-1

Mexico:

Quality: Good quality with growers doing their best to keep green shoulders and overripe fruit out of clamshells.

Volume: Steady.

Pack Counts: Conventional: 20-24 ct

MX Straws 1-18-1

Florida:

Quality: Good quality with no major defects. Very little rain damage, and a small amount of bronzing and green shoulder that crews are working through to keep packs clean.

Volume: Cold weather has slowed ripening but there are lots of flowers and green fruit, volume is expected to increase quickly as soon as temps warm up.

Pack Count: 12-16 ct

FL Straws-1

Blueberries

Mexico

Quality: Conventional blueberries have good quality with good bloom and size between 12-16mm. Organic blueberries have good quality with sizes between 14-18 mm.

Volume: Conventional volumes to increase next week with a significant jump estimated in February. Organic volume is expected to spike up by mid-February.

South America:

Quality: Good quality. Firm, flavorful and with good bloom.

Volume: Volume is increasing as mid-season varieties start to be harvested. The bulk of this season’s volume from Chile will arrive by the end of February – similar to last year.

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is excellent with good size, bloom, texture and flavor.

Volume: Volume will increase each week until the peak of the season in late March – early April.

Raspberries

Mexico:

Quality: Good quality with some overripe and crumbled fruit caused by cold temperatures.

Volume: Steady volumes for conventional and organic crops.

Quality: Good.

Volume: Steady.
