Happy Thursday!
We are soaring through December and can't believe the New Year is right around the corner. As we make our way through this month, we want to thank our partners for following along and trusting us on this journey. As for our berries, volumes may currently be slow but will be ramping up quickly, and quality is looking good. Chilean blues are in their peak production, and Florida is in the beginning of its strawberry season with favorable weather and quality. We will be taking a short break from the Trade Buzz through the holidays, and will resume after the New Year on January 2nd.
Cheers to the holidays and winter berries!

We received a half inch of rain last weekend, and this week, weather has been mostly cloudy in the mid-high 60s with nights in the 40s. Next week will be similar, with a slight chance of rain but nothing threatening at this time. Rain is, however, forecasted for Dec. 21st through the Christmas holiday, so we will be keeping an eye on these conditions ahead. We are seeing some minor quality concerns due to the recent storms but crews are doing a great job of keeping packs clean. Counts are 16-20 among conventional crops, and 18-20 for organics. We are seeing crooked fruit here and there, but anticipate this cleaning up very soon. Fronteras will begin production around Jan. 11th.
Oxnard:
Weather in Oxnard has consisted of temperatures primarily in the 60s-70s and will be cooling down a bit this week into the low-mid 60s with partly cloudy skies. There is a chance of rain next weekend - something we will be keeping an eye on but as of now, predictions look slim. We are on our second pick of San Andreas and quality is looking good despite the recent California storms. We are expecting a good push in volume come January, with Fronteras to come into production as well in the New Year. Organics will come into production as well come January in small volumes. The fruit we picked earlier this week in our fields was mostly 95-100% full color and 18-20 count. Size will increase over the next few weeks and a strong crop is predicted ahead as we continue into our season.
Mexico:
Strawberries:
We are starting to see higher volumes and weather is helping maintain the quality and providing favorable size. However, the cold mornings are also slowing the ripening of the fruit.
Blackberries:
Blackberry volume continues to increase and weather is excellent for production.
Raspberries:
Raspberry volume is expected to slightly increase the next few weeks, and weather is helping to reduce variables in the field. We are continuing to make suggestions for nutrition and harvesting of the crops and growers are responding well. As for organic raspberries, production is increasing and quality is looking good.
Blueberries:
The production looks great and volumes will continue to increase very slowly. The cool morning temperatures will help to maintain size and firmness. We are monitoring the frost on the horizon and will adjust volumes if necessary. Organic blueberry volume is increasing and quality looks good.
Blueberries:
Florida:
Our Florida region will be going into a cooling trend with temperatures forecasted for the 60s with nighttime lows in the 40s. After this cool front next week, conditions are predicted to be mild and favorable for crops - in the 70s with nighttime lows in the 50s. Quality is looking good, and most crews are on two-day rounds. We are seeing some white shoulder here and there, but generally speaking fruit is looking very strong. Brilliance is 18-20 count, while Sensation is 18-24 and sizing up nicely. We are about 7-10 days ahead of other shippers in the season, and having no current issues with labor.
