Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with nice shape, sheen, and occasional green or white tips.  

Volume: Production is on a day-to-day basis as the season finishes.   

Pack Counts: Conventional: 18-20    

Santa Maria

Quality: Conventional quality is good with some green shoulders and tips due to cool nighttime temperatures. Organic quality is good with full color and occasional minor berry on berry bruising. The weather is predicted to be warmer this week than previous weeks which will greatly decrease the ripening time of fruit and boost harvested volume.  

Volume: High-volume peak weeks are expected to start this week and continue through mid-June.  

Pack Counts: Conventional Spring Crop: 18-22-24 depending on ranch; Organic Spring Crop: 20-24 

Watsonville/Salinas

Quality: Quality is excellent. Warmer weather this week will help decrease the ripening time of green fruit and increase production.  

Volume: Production continues to increase toward significant promotable supply for late May through June.  

Pack Counts: Conventional: 10-12-14 depending on ranch; Organic: 14-16-18 depending on ranch 

 

BLUEBERRIES

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good with some smaller fruit due to high temperatures.  

Volume: Conventional production is slightly decreasing for the next few weeks. Organic remains steady.

Central Valley, California

Quality: Organic quality is excellent for both conventional and organic fruit.   

Volume: Production continues to increase; peak production is forecasted for the end of May and will maintain high volumes through June. 

Georgia 

Quality: Quality is good.  

Volume: Highbush production is anticipated to finish this week and rabbiteye volumes are estimated to start next week.  

RASPBERRIES

Mexico

Quality: Quality is very good with some uneven ripening.  

Volume: Production is increasing each week. 

Watsonville/Salinas

Harvest Status: Light harvests have started.  

BLACKBERRIES

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good with occasional occurrences of red cell and leaky fruit.  

Volume: Production is still trending downward.  

Watsonville/Salinas

Harvest Status: First small harvests have started.
