Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with nice shape and sheen. Santa Ana winds are causing some dusty fruit but no damage.  

Volume: A slight dip in production is expected this week due to incoming cold weather. Volumes will increase again in March.   

Pack Counts: Conventional: 14-16-18

Santa Maria

Quality: Conventional and organic spring crop quality is good with nice size and taste. The only defects are cold weather-related button tips and green shoulders. Organic fall crop quality is good with some small, soft-skinned fruit. 

Volume: Spring crop production is steadily increasing while fall crop begins to wind down. A frost advisory is anticipated this week which could slightly decrease production.  

Pack Counts: Conventional Spring Crop: 12-16; Organic Spring Crop: 12-14; Organic Fall Crop: 25-30

Watsonville/Salinas

Harvest Status: Light harvests will start this week.

Florida

Quality: Quality is good; fields are loaded with red fruit.  

Volume: Peak production will start this week.  

Pack Counts: Conventional: 15-18; Organic: 18-20

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good with some green and overripe fruit.   

Volume: Production is increasing. 

Pack Counts: 16-20, 22-28 depending on ranch

BLUEBERRIES

Mexico

Quality: Quality is great with nice bloom.  

Volume: Production is increasing for both organic and conventional fruit.

Chile

Quality: Arrival fruit quality is good. In Chile, growers are experiencing hot weather and labor shortages as the season winds down.  

Volume: Arrival volume is beginning to slightly decrease.
