Crop Updates

Watsonville - Salinas:

Weather in this region has been mild and similar to Santa Maria, though mornings have consisted of fog and light drizzles with the sun coming out in the afternoon. This week is expected to have temperatures in the mid to high 60s, and will continue this cooling trend for the next few weeks. Strawberry counts on most ranches are 14-16, with Monterey variety looking great in size and shape. Cabrillo is slightly darker and battling some overripe issues, but nothing major. Fruit is expected to increase in volume week after week, with our peak expected for the last week of June. Our raspberry crops are looking great and staying steady in production, while blackberries are about 3 weeks away from making a big jump in produdction!

Santa Maria:

Last weekend this region saw highs in the mid 80s, with a cooler week in the 50s and 60s as the marine layer kept temperatures on the chillier side, with drizzles and fog in the early morning hours. This week, we can expect to see consistent temperatures in the mid 70s, with weather working in our favor in terms of quality. Monterey variety is at 22-24 count, with great color and firmness. San Andreas has experienced some issues - bruising and dark fruit. This is predominantly due to weather, and common of the variety. Organic strawberry quality is looking good in this region, with counts in the mid 20s.

Blueberries:

Weather this week in our Georgia growing region consists of hot temperatures and scattered thunderstorms. Though thunderstorms may be of concern, we will begin harvesting our late season varieties and should have a steady supply for the next two weeks. Our central valley crops have passed their production peak, but will also continue to have a steady supply of fruit for the next 10-12 days. Weather and quality are remaining excellent. We are looking forward to our upcoming pacific north west harvest in Oregon and British Columbia, with a solid producing crop well on its way for our July 1st harvest.

Our Summer Consumer Campaign Just Launched!

We joined some of our favorite fresh produce brands, Crunch Pak, Mission Produce, Oceanmist and Sunset launching a summer Skinny Dips promotion, which offers consumers the opportunity to download a recipe ebook full of low-calorie dips, and enter for the chance to win a $4,000 summer vacation prize pack.

As part of an ongoing collaborative marketing strategy, each brand will use data earned and collected from this promotion to nurture fresh produce shoppers and enthusiasts based on dietary preference, retail shopping habits, and demographics in order to deliver content that is relevant to each unique person. Ten influential food bloggers will also be supporting the sweepstakes by creating unique recipe content that coincides with the “skinny dipping” theme in order to encourage sweepstakes entries and ebook downloads from a highly qualified audience of foodies.

We look forward to connecting with shoppers and enticing them to put more of our fresh berries in their carts from now till after the July 4th holiday when this promotion comes to a close and the winners are announced.
