Strawberries

Santa Maria:

Quality: Conventional fruit quality is firm with good shape, color, and size with minor berry on berry bruising. Overall organic fruit quality is good with the only occasional bruising.
Volume: Production remains consistent as peak season volume winds down.
Pack Counts: Conventional: 18-20-22 ct. depending on variety
Organic: 16-18-20 ct.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Quality: Quality of both conventional and organic fruit is good with only minor green fruit and bronzing.
Volume: Volume will slowly keep increasing over the month of June.
Pack Counts: Conventional: 12-14, 14-18 ct. depending on variety
Organic: 20-22 ct. depending on variety

Straw Wat-Sal-1

Blueberries

Mexico

Quality: Overall fruit quality is good with a small amount of shrivel. Growers are doing a good job keeping packs clean.
Volume: Production continues to slowly taper off as growers begin pruning bushes.

Mexico Blue-1

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with mostly firm berries and good bloom.
Volume: Production continues to wind down for the season and is projected to finish in week 24.

Central Valley, CA

Quality: The Central Valley experienced extreme heat with temperatures over 100 degrees last week. Packers are working hard to maintain good quality fruit and keep packs clean.
Volume: Conventional fruit continues to pick up volume while organic volume remains consistent.

Georgia:

Quality: Quality is good and remains consistent.
Volume: This week is the final week of highbush berries. Rabbiteye started light harvests over the weekend and is expected to peak in week 24.

Raspberries

Mexico:

Quality: Fruit quality is good with only occasional overripe and uneven ripening.
Volume: Conventional production remains steady as organic winds down.

Watsonville/Salinas:

Harvest Status: Quality is good as production volumes increase.

Harvest Status: A light first harvest is anticipated this week and will slowly gain momentum going forward.

Georgia:

Quality: Quality is excellent with only occasional red cell.
Volume: Production continues to increase as peak season approaches.

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month!
Capitalize on the bountiful buffet of fresh fruits in the produce section this summer. Strawberries make for the perfect centerpiece to this display with their gorgeous color and delicious scent, inevitably grabbing the attention of shoppers - whether it be an intentional or impulse purchase. Keep them engaged by including blueberries, blackberries and raspberries in that same display and consider adding colorful signage that reinforces their many health benefits. QR codes featuring easy and unique recipes is another great way to increase shopper's baskets and encourage consumption of peak of season fresh berries.
