Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with occasional overripe and small fruit. Crews are keeping packs clean.  

Volume: Production is winding down for the season.   

Pack Counts: Conventional: 16-20 depending on ranch

Santa Maria

Quality: Conventional fruit quality is good with some green shoulders and deformed tips. Organic fruit quality is good with occasional overripe or bruised fruit. Plants are loaded with strong green fruit; consistent cool weather is stunting ripening across both organic and conventional fruit. Weather is expected to warm up toward the end of the week.  

Volume: Peak production continues; big increases in volume are expected with warmer weather. 

Pack Counts: Conventional Spring Crop: 18-20, 22-25 depending on ranch; Organic Spring Crop: 20-22-25 depending on ranch

Watsonville/Salinas

Quality: Quality is great; ripening is slow due to cool nighttime temperatures.  

Volume: Production is increasing week over week. Depending on weather patterns, peak may be towards the middle of June.  

Pack Counts: Conventional: 10-12; Organic: 16-17

Mexico

Quality: Quality is good.  

Volume: Both organic and conventional production is steady.

Quality: Organic and conventional quality is good.  

Volume: Both organic and conventional production is increasing. Large promotional volumes are anticipated through June.    

Georgia 

Quality: Quality is very good.  

Volume: Highbush production is expected to finish this week. Rabbiteye volumes are estimated to start in week 21 and increase quickly.

Quality: Quality is very good with some uneven ripening due to drastic swings in day and nighttime temperatures.  

Volume: Production is gradually increasing each week.

Quality: Quality is good with occasional occurrences of red cell and leaky fruit.  

Volume: Production continues to slowly decrease.
