Crop Updates

STRAWBERRIES

Oxnard

Quality: Quality is good with nice shape, sheen, and color. The weather did not get as cold as anticipated and caused little to no damage.  

Volume: Production is increasing with high volumes expected through March.    

Pack Counts: Conventional: 12-16

Santa Maria

Quality: Conventional quality is good with some green shoulders. Organic fruit quality is good with some seedy and deformed tips. Cold weather in the low 30’s last week damaged 15-30% of plants and may impact fruit quality in the coming months.  

Volume: Spring crop production is increasing steadily while fall crop begins to wind down. A frost advisory is anticipated this week which could slightly decrease production.  

Pack Counts: Conventional Spring Crop: 14-16-18 depending on ranch; Organic Spring Crop: 16-20; Organic Fall Crop: 25-30

Watsonville/Salinas

Harvest Status: First light harvests started last week. Below freezing temperatures caused some frost damage that should not impact plant and fruit health in the long run.

Florida

Quality: Fruit quality is good with occasional bruising.   

Volume: Peak production volumes will continue increasing through this week before leveling out. 

Pack Counts: Conventional: 17-21; Organic: 18-20

Quality: Quality is good with some green and overripe fruit.   

Volume: Production is increasing.
